Climate change at european level

Wastes are the exact mirror of our lifestyle and of our production and consumptions patterns. Each product, before and during manufacturing, leaves beyond itself an amount of waste. In the same way what we buy, early or later turns into waste. European countries are based on a very high resources consumption: in the EU-15 every citizen uses about 15-16 tons of resources per year (for buildings, fossil fuel and biomass). About a third of this amount turns in waste. This means an average of 4 millions tons for each person in EU.

This is the stream of industrial waste.

Municipal solid waste or household waste- the waste that we produce at home - is about 520 kg per capita every year. And the amount of municipal waste is expected to grow by 25 % from 2005 to 2020. The problem is that this amount needs to be managed and waste management is a cost for the community.

The need is to brake the link between growth of GDP and growth trend of waste production. How to do this? Each of us can contribute with our behaviour. The radio campaign will tell us how.
